Impromptu Studio.

I scheduled a shoot a couple of weeks ago, when the weather was unseasonably warm, for yesterday, when the weather was pretty cold.

I met this family at a park near their home and got a few great outdoor shots, until Caroline kept repeating, "Mommy, I freezing cold!" Here are a few of the outdoor shots of Will and Caroline:

I had a product shoot scheduled just after, so I had brought along my lighting and backdrops. I told Gina we could go back to her house to finish up if she wanted. I'm so glad she agreed! Look at what we would have missed if the weather had cooperated!

Which bring us to...

It's Christmas card season! If you'd like to schedule your Christmas shoot - in your own home - contact me to get your time secured. If you prefer solid backdrops let me know and I'll bring them along, or we can use your own living space as your backdrop.

Matthew & Tiffany.

Last weekend I had the amazing job of shooting my brother-in-law's wedding. I'm always torn when asked to take pictures at family events, because there's an element of "missing out" on what's going on when you view it all through a lens. However, the element of getting a more intimate view and creating memories for them far outweighs missing out. And at this event, it wasn't possible to miss anything. Matthew and Tiffany are a wonderful couple and had so much fun becoming husband and wife. I'll post more pictures on my portfolio, but here are a few I wanted to share.

This flower girl was so expressive! Even the "outtakes" turned out great. (Which are usually my favorites over the ones you work on setting up.) I just love this picture of her.

Immediately after the ceremony everyone headed downstairs. Of course the groomsmen had to sit on the couches in the ladies' room.

I set this picture up and asked them to kiss, but this before-the-kiss shot is my favorite of the series.

Matthew actually suggested this spot while we were outside near that window in the background. It wasn't dark yet, but was rainy and cloudy, so I adjusted my settings and decided to make it look like a nighttime kiss under the lamp post. I changed it to black and white and added the color back into the flowers. I'm really happy with how this one turned out.

And, of course, the reception. What's happening on the dance floor is funny, but my favorite part of this shot are the reactions in the background. That girl on the right is priceless.

Dancing about architecture.

"I just said, 'Well, if you're going to get all philosophical on me, it's just as pointless talking about a lot of things, love for instance.' and he said, 'Definitely, most definitely, talking about love is like dancing about architecture.'"- Playing By Heart

If a picture's worth a thousand words, why am I writing about photography?

I thought I'd start this business blog to give my clients and readers an extra glimpse into my world, since they so generously allow me to share in theirs through my lens.

Photography is not a job to me. It's a necessity. There are days I want to walk down the street and just grab someone and start clicking. It's like eating or breathing. I care as much about my clients' photos as they do. It's my art.

This blog will be where I post my thoughts and favorite photos from shoots, maybe a few outtakes that don't make it into the portfolio. It will be a place where I record my growth at making a living doing what I live for.
